Okay, confession time.
A few summers ago, I was elbow-deep in what was supposed to be a simple PVC repair under the utility sink. It was one of those cramped jobs where you can barely see what you’re doing—let alone swing a tool around. The old pipe needed a straight cut before I could attach a new fitting.
Naturally, I reached for the trusty hacksaw. You know—the one you use for everything. But as soon as I started sawing, the blade jammed against the wall, the pipe wiggled, and sawdust went everywhere (yes, even inside the cabinet). After ten minutes of hacking, the cut was crooked and jagged. I had to stop, clean up, and—frankly—walk away defeated.
That’s when I ordered a ratcheting tubing cutter—because there simply was no other way to make that cut cleanly in that tight spot. What followed was one of the most satisfying slices of tubing I’ve ever made: smooth, clean, and without nearly as much sweat. Even better—no hacksaw scars!
